A Chicago man is facing felony charges after authorities say a large quantity of illegal drugs was discovered during a traffic stop on a Greyhound bus.

According to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office, a highway interdiction deputy observed the bus traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on I-80 near the 58-mile marker on March 27.

The bus was stopped near the 61-mile marker. During the stop, a narcotics detection K-9 was deployed and alerted to the presence of drugs.

Investigators say a backpack found in an overhead compartment near the front of the bus was claimed by 47-year-old Artha Jackson of Chicago.

A search of the bag allegedly revealed a significant amount of illegal drugs.

Jackson was taken into custody and booked into the LaPorte County Jail on charges of dealing in cocaine, a Level 2 felony, and dealing in marijuana, a Level 6 felony.

He is being held on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
