Woman killed, child injured in Elkhart pedestrian crash

A 28-year-old woman was killed and her 2-year-old daughter injured after they were struck by a vehicle late Thursday night in Elkhart.

According to the Elkhart Police Department, officers and emergency responders were dispatched around 11:37 p.m. to the 3300 block of South Nappanee Street following reports of a vehicle striking pedestrians.

Preliminary information indicates a BMW struck the woman and her child as they were crossing the street near 3310 S. Nappanee St.

Elkhart Fire Department paramedics provided medical care at the scene before transporting the child to a local hospital for treatment of a head injury. Police said the girl was reported to be in stable condition.

The woman suffered critical injuries and died early Friday morning.

Authorities said the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
