I.U. defensive end Tyrone Burrus Jr. is facing charges after Bloomington police arrested him Thursday.
The Warren Central graduate was booked into the Monroe County Jail on preliminary charges of strangulation and domestic battery. He remained in custody Friday morning, and a first court hearing had not been scheduled.
I.U. Athletics says it is aware of the arrest and is looking into the situation.
Court records show the incident happened Thursday at an apartment in the 200 block of East 20th Street, west of Memorial Stadium. Investigators say Burrus and 18-year-old Kira Marie Motley, who were in a relationship, got into an argument that escalated into a physical confrontation.
Both told investigators they were injured. Motley said she used pepper spray during the incident, and Burrus is accused of grabbing her by the neck and restricting her breathing.
Both Burrus and Motley were arrested and booked into the Monroe County Jail.
