Zimmy’s Tavern on Sunset Blvd. in Union, Michigan, has been destroyed by fire.

The blaze broke out around 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28.
There was no immediate word about what sparked the fire, but it is believed there was an explosion.
One person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. A firefighter who was hurt was also treated and later released.
Crews on scene discovered a gas leak and evacuated the area around the restaurant, but authorities have not yet stated whether the gas leak contributed to the fire.

My first years of life started on Long Lake not far from Zimmy’s. Zimmy’s was more then just a bar, it was a center place for the community, and a guidepost when telling our friends how to find where we lived. This is such a shock for all of us who grew up in and around Zimmy’s, and there will never be another one like it. FAREWELL Zimmy’s you will be missed but never forgotten.
