A Michigan City police officer has resigned after an internal investigation determined the officer improperly used the department’s Flock public-safety camera system.

The Michigan City Police Department says the issue was discovered during a routine audit of activity on the system. Investigators identified searches that raised questions about whether they were legitimate.

The officer was placed on administrative leave while the department conducted an internal investigation and resigned before that review was completed.

The department’s administrative review determined the officer’s use of the Flock system violated department policy.

Police say the completed investigation will be forwarded to the LaPorte County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Because the investigation remains active, the department has not released additional information about the searches.

Michigan City police say routine audits of the Flock system will continue as the department works to ensure the technology is being used appropriately and in accordance with policy.
