A renter was arrested on an arson charge after a mobile home fire Wednesday night at Eagle Lake Estates Mobile Home Park in Edwardsburg, police said.

Ontwa Township-Edwardsburg police officers were dispatched to the park around 11:19 p.m. Oct. 21. They found a mobile home fully engulfed, with flames damaging nearby trailers. Officers checked neighboring homes and helped evacuate residents.

The department’s initial investigation indicates the renter deliberately set the fire, police said. The person was arrested at the scene and taken to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office. Police are withholding the person’s name pending arraignment.

No injuries were reported. Edwardsburg Fire Department and Edwardsburg Ambulance Service assisted at the scene. Fire crews from Clay, Cleveland, Cassopolis and Porter Township also responded.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Ontwa Township-Edwardsburg Police Department at 269-663-8444.
