Formal charges have been filed against a Randolph County man in the murder of 17-year-old Yorktown High School senior football star Chris Wilson Jr.
40-year-old Dairus Thompson II, of Farmland, faces several charges in connection with the shooting death of Wilson earlier this month. He’s charged with murder (aiding, inducing or causing an offense), conspiracy to commit murder and obstruction of justice.
On the morning of Oct. 5, Wilson was shot & killed while sitting in his car with his girlfriend in front of her house in Muncie.
According to court documents, investigators believe Wilson may have been mistaken for another man who was involved in an ongoing dispute with people connected to the shooting. Witnesses told police that Wilson was not the intended target of this incident.
A probable cause affidavit states that investigators do not believe Thompson fired the shots that killed Wilson, but that he helped coordinate the shooting by driving a vehicle used before and after the fatal shots were fired. Detectives believe a child carried out the shooting.
Thompson was booked into the Delaware County Jail on Oct. 14 after a warrant had been issued for his arrest on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon in Madison County.
Delaware County Prosecutor Eric Hoffman had a 1 p.m. deadline on Thursday to file formal charges against Thompson. He has an initial court hearing scheduled for Nov. 2.
