SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Birds of prey are flocking to the South Bend area in northern Indiana.
A live web camera has been installed near the nest of two bald eagles at St. Patrick’s County Park so people can watch. The South Bend Tribune reports the city’s resident peregrine falcon couple, Zeus and Maltese, also are preparing to start another family downtown, and osprey have returned to a relocated nesting site near the Twin Branch dam in Mishawaka.
The new osprey nest sits atop a 70-foot pole on the north side of the St. Joseph River. Indiana Michigan Power environmental specialist Rob Ginter says the relocation will allow the company to proceed with substation upgrades without disrupting the osprey.
