Lucas Oil Stadium roof to stay closed for Colts game after bolt fell

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The roof of Lucas Oil Stadium will stay closed for the Indianapolis Colts’ home opener as officials continue to investigate why a bolt fell there earlier this month.

Three people were injured by the bolt, which was sheared off by the retractable roof as it was opening during a Colts preseason game Sept. 3. Capital Improvement Board executive director Barney Levengood says Monday’s Colts game and high school football games Friday and Saturday will go on as scheduled.

Levengood tells the Indianapolis Star that the board believes the stadium is safe if the roof isn’t operated. He says he’s not sure when the roof would be cleared to open again.

The roof investigation includes the Indiana Stadium and Convention Building Authority and those who worked on Lucas Oil Stadium.
