Fort Wayne businessman Bob Thomas considering a run for governor of Indiana

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence is expected to announce his bid for re-election in June and he may have a challenger on the Republican ticket.

Business owner Bob Thomas of Fort Wayne announced last week that he is considering running for governor of Indiana, according to 95.3 MNC’s news partners WOWO News/Talk AM/FM in Fort Wayne.

Thomas is calling himself the alternative Republican to Mike Pence and says he’d run the state more like a business.

“We have all sorts of problems. Our schools are subpar at best. The economy is just kind of limping along,” Thomas told WOWO. “We were in a perfect position to make some major advances on all of these issues, and instead of trying to attack any of those things, we get trips to China. We get the marriage amendment. We get the religious freedom act and the propaganda bureau. A lot of that stuff has no business in government.”

He also said that Pence has focused on his own career politicians and that Thomas would focus on Hoosiers.

“I’m not a career politician, so I’m not looking for the next elected office. Mike Pence, he wanted to be governor because he could polish up his resume so he could run for the presidency,” Thomas said. “I’m too old to run for president. I’d want to be governor because I want to do things that would improve the lives of the people of Indiana.”

Thomas has owned car dealerships in Fort Wayne and Indianapolis for more than 30 years.
