Barack Obama tweets from POTUS account six years after taking office

POTUS has a new Twitter account — launched about six years into his presidency and two years after the FLOTUS Twitter account was launched.

President Barack Obama tweeted from the @POTUS account on Monday morning, May 18, for the first time ever.

The account is separate from the @BarackObama account, which is run by the Organizing for Action staff and mostly includes quotes from the President’s speeches and his opinions on various political issues.

The @FLOTUS Twitter account was started Jan. 17 and is ran by the Office of the First Lady. It too is separate from the @MichelleObama handle, which is ran by the Organizing for Action staff.

Other White House accounts on Twitter include @WhiteHouse and @VP.
