Bremen man injured, horse killed in Kosciusko County crash

A Bremen man was hospitalized with serious injuries and a horse died after a crash early Thursday morning, Nov. 5, in rural Kosciusko County.

The 19-year-old man was driving a car east on C.R. 1350 North near C.R. 1025 W. at about 5:51 a.m. when a horse entered the roadway, according to Sgt. Chad Hill with the Kosciuso County Sheriff’s Department. The man tried to brake but wasn’t able to stop in time, striking and killing the horse.

The man suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Community Hospital of Bremen.

The horse belonged to James Bontrager of Nappanee. Hill said the horse likely pushed a watering trough to the side and was able to get past its fence.
