Two adults and their four children were taken to a hospital and a dog was rescued and revived after a house fire on the northwest side of South Bend early Thursday morning, Sept. 24.

Emergency crews were called to the home in the 1900 block of Elwood Avenue shortly 3 a.m. and found flames throughout the house and some family members on the roof of the porch, 95.3 MNC’s news partners ABC 57 reported.

Two or three family members jumped from the roof — which was about 10 feet off the ground — to escape the fire. 

One person suffered burns on their hands and feet and other family members were treated for smoke inhalation.

A dog found unconscious inside the home was revived with oxygen, WSBT reported.

The fire started on the first floor and spread throughout the house, ABC 57 reported. 

Authorities are searching for a seventh person who may have been inside the home or may have been helping the house’s residents escape, WNDU reported.
