West Nile virus found in mosquitoes in Elkhart County

A mosquito pool in Middlebury tested positive for the West Nile virus, as reported by 95.3 MNC’s news partners The Elkhart Truth.

West Nile has also been found in mosquitoes in surrounding counties, like St. Joseph and Kosciusko, The Elkhart Truth reported.

Residents in Michiana concerned about mosquitoes and West Nile virus can avoid being bit by wearing long-sleeved shirts and long pants as well as using bug repellants that contain DEET.

Symptoms of West Nile fever show up in about 20 percent of people infected, The Elkhart Truth reported. Symptoms like headache, fever, body aches and fatigue can appear three to 14 days after becoming infected.
