LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Two former lawmakers who were booted from Michigan’s Capitol for an extramarital affair and a strange cover-up scheme are seeking another chance.

Todd Courser, who resigned in September, and ousted Rep. Cindy Gamrat are running in Tuesday’s special Republican primaries.

Their bids are longshots, but not entirely out of the realm of possibility because there are so many candidates in the running.

Courser sent a phony email that said he was caught having sex with a male prostitute. He said the tale would make the affair less plausible if it was revealed by an anonymous extortionist.

Gamrat says constituents have either forgiven her or were not bothered by the scandal, but one of her challengers says many people have brought it up in conversation.
