Hazmat responds to semi crash in Elkhart County

(95.3 MNC)

A semi crash Tuesday morning resulted in a response from the Elkhart hazmat team.

The Bristol Fire department responded to the crash on State Road 120 between County Roads 17 and 19 at 7 a.m.

The tandem semi was carrying hydrochloric acid when it went off the road and struck two trees. Traffic was backed up throughout the morning for the cleanup process, which included ensuring no acid was able to leak into the St. Joseph River.

One of the trees also fell into the road, affecting power lines, and delaying the cleanup while crews removed it with chainsaws.

What’s a semi-crash? Does it mean that they almost hit, but don’t?
