South Bend Cubs players touching down at South Bend International Airport tonight

SOUTH BEND — The South Bend Cubs are flying in on a big old jet airliner and everyone is invited to welcome them when they touch down tonight at South Bend International Airport

The team will arrive around 5:38 p.m. Monday, April 6, after flying in from Mesa, Ariz., according to a news release from the team.

Fans can meet at baggage claim with signs and their best gear — two fans will score a pair of tickets to the sold-out game Thursday, April 9, against the Bowling Green Hot Rods, according to the release.

The team will pile in limos and caravan downtown to Four Winds Field and the public is invited to join.

“We want our new team to see what a great community of fans we have here,” president Joe Hart said in a statement last week. “These players are part of a much-loved baseball dynasty — they are part of the Chicago Cubs. This is a big deal to them—and to South Bend. Once the players are off the plane, we’ll officially welcome them to town before we take them to the stadium.”
