MIDLAND, Mich. (AP) — A former mid-Michigan sheriff’s deputy has pleaded no contest to criminal sexual conduct and misconduct charges.

The Morning Sun of Mount Pleasant reports Kevin Dush entered the pleas Wednesday before next month’s scheduled trial. He pleaded to two charges — a misdemeanor criminal sexual conduct count and a felony count of misconduct while in office — but originally faced several more.

The pleas aren’t admissions of guilt but are treated that way for sentencing purposes.

Dush was charged in May. He was accused of trying to extort sex from a shoplifting suspect and using his position to have sex with another woman he met while on patrol.

The 57-year-old Isabella County deputy quit before being interviewed by the undersheriff.

Dush is scheduled to be sentenced in about a month.
