GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — The mother of a boy convicted of fatally stabbing a 9-year-old on a Michigan playground has been jailed after testing positive for drinking alcohol.

The woman had been free on bond since a jury last month convicted her of abusing her son. Her sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 24 sentencing.

WOOD-TV reports that she tested positive for alcohol on Oct. 14. She also had tested positive on Sept. 16, the first day of her trial, and in April. A Kent County judge ordered the woman jailed Wednesday for violating her bond.

The Associated Press isn’t naming the boy or relatives because of his age.

The boy was 12 when Michael Conner Verkerke was slain in August 2014 in Kentwood, near Grand Rapids. A jury convicted him of murder.
