LaPorte County man killed in beating, Victim's nephew, sister arrested

A LaPorte County man has died after being beaten and the victim’s nephew and sister have been arrested in connection with his death.

Police were called to a home on Highland Drive in Fish Lake on Monday, Nov. 2. on the report of an injured person, according to a news release from the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department.

The victim, Harold Grise, 68, was found inside the home severely injured, the news release states. He was taken to IU Health LaPorte Hospital.

The call to police came from the Grise’s son who was unable to reach his father and called 911 when he found his father lying on the floor of the home, according to the news release.

Grise had been involved in a fight with his nephew, Eric Minter, 43, on Friday, Oct. 30, the news release states.

Minter was arrested on a preliminary charge of battery causing serious bodily injury and placed in the LaPorte County Jail.

On Friday, Nov. 6, the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department was notified that Grise died due to his injuries.

That same day, Grise’s sister, 73-year-old Georgia Arvidson, was taken into custody on a criminal charge of neglect of a dependent. Minter, who is Arvidson’s son, was also charged with neglect of a dependent at that time. Bail for Minter and Arvidson was set at $100,000 each.

Grise died as a result of complications from blunt force trauma to the head and neck, according to the autopsy that was conducted on Saturday. His death was ruled a homicide.

Since the case has been declared a homicide investigators will be meeting with the La Porte County Prosecutor’s Office and expect to discuss filing additional criminal charges, according to the news release.
