Mike Pence says he hasn't reviewed GOP bill on LGBT rights

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Republican Gov. Mike Pence says he has not reviewed a GOP proposal to address LGBT rights as well as religious protections during the coming legislative session.

The bill was announced Monday by Republican Senate President Pro Tem David Long, who didn’t provide any details.

Pence said Tuesday morning that he hasn’t talked about the proposal with it sponsor and planned to continue to study the issue.

The Indiana Democratic Party in a statement accused Pence of using that as an excuse to duck debate over whether civil rights protections should be extended to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. Pence declined to comment when asked about the delay.

Demonstrators on both sides of the issue are expected at the Statehouse Tuesday as lawmakers hold their Organization Day meetings.
