Two people die in crash while heading to Michigan hospital for family member's birth

COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say two people heading to hospital for the birth of a family member’s baby in have died in a crash in southwestern Michigan.

The Kalamazoo County sheriff’s department says 34-year-old driver Emil Skokan and 53-year-old passenger Peggy Nichols died in Saturday afternoon’s crash in Comstock Township, near Kalamazoo.

The department says the vehicle carrying the Kalamazoo residents lost control and hit a tree.

On Sunday, the department says Skokan and Nichols were on their way to an area hospital for the birth of a family member’s baby at the time of the crash.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
