WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Purdue University says it has received a record number of admissions applications for the fall semester for the sixth year in row.

The university said in a news release that as of Monday, applications have been submitted by 47,475 prospective first-year students. The school’s admissions office says that’s a 7.2 percent increase over last year’s record.

Purdue says it saw a 6.2 percent increase in applicants from Indiana and an increase in out-of-state applicants. International student applicants were similar to previous years.

The priority deadline for applications was Feb. 1, though the school says applications will be taken for most programs into the summer with limited available space. Purdue received about 1,000 applications after the priority deadline last year.
