Elkhart Four: Blake Layman expected to be released from prison in about a month

A second Elkhart Four man is scheduled to be released from prison in about a month.

Blake Layman is scheduled to be released from prison April 2, according to the Indiana Department of Correction website. However, because the DOC only releases inmates on Thursdays and Mondays, Layman will likely be released March 31.

Layman was sentenced to 10 years in prison in January after the Indiana Supreme Court threw out his felony murder conviction and instead ordered that he be convicted of burglary. His release date was recently updated after accounting for time already served.

One of his co-defendants, Levi Sparks, was released from prison in January. He was sentenced to nine years in prison during the January re-sentencing hearing.

A third co-defendant, Anthony Sharp, is not expected to be released from prison until 2018.

Jose Quiroz pleaded guilty to felony murder, but his conviction was modified to burglary and he was sentenced to 10 years in prison earlier this month. He’s expected to be released from prison in 2016 or 2017.
