The extra $42 million of Regional Cities funding is one step closer to getting passed, but it’s still not a solid bet.
The proposal to issue an extra $42 million, as recommended by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, was added to Senate Bill 333, a transportation bill that would pay for road repairs with increased taxes on gasoline and cigarettes, according to our news partners The Elkhart Truth. That bill has been controversial because of the proposed tax hikes and has been competing with a separate road funding bill that includes no tax hikes.

S.B. 333 passed the Indiana House Ways and Means Committee by a vote of 13-8 and now heads to the House floor.
The South Bend-Elkhart region is one of three cities hoping to use $42 million in grants each to jump start local development projects.
