Elkhart shooting sends woman to hospital with two gunshot wounds late Monday night

A 25-year-old woman was shot twice in Elkhart late Monday night, March 7, and police are still searching for the suspect.

The shooting happened during an altercation between two groups of people in the 400 block of Wagner Avenue at about 10:50 p.m., Sgt. Chris Snyder with the Elkhart Police Department said.

The suspect walked from the side of the building and shot the woman in the thigh and abdomen, Snyder said. She was taken to Elkhart General Hospital.

A detailed description of the suspect was not available.
