Three of the four men named in a lawsuit in which 10 women claim they were subjected to sexual abuse in Berrien County Jail no longer work for the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

The sheriff’s department investigated the claims in September and found no evidence of misconduct within the jail, Sheriff L. Paul Bailey said.

Two of the men named in the lawsuit, Sgt. Brett McGrew and Deputy Keegan Trail, resigned from the sheriff’s department, Bailey said. A third man, Sgt. John McCoy, was fired because of off-duty misconduct.

Deputy David Lee was named in the lawsuit but no allegations against him were mentioned in it. He still works for the sheriff’s department.

Bailey said that the sheriff’s department had not been served with the lawsuit, but that they deny all of the allegations.

“All Berrien County Sheriff’s Office employees are held to a high standard and we will continue to serve the residents of Berrien County with the highest degree of professionalism and integrity,” Bailey said.
