Man started fire in Benton Harbor Walmart bathroom, then tried to steal items, police say

Police in Berrien County, Mich., are looking for a man they say set fire in the men’s bathroom at Walmart and then tried to walk out of the store with a cart full of items he didn’t pay for.

The fire started sometime early Tuesday morning, April 26, at the Walmart on Mall Drive in Benton Harbor, Mich., according to a news partners at ABC 57.

A custodian used a fire extinguisher on the flames until firefighters arrived.

While emergency crews were tending to the fire, the man tried to push a cart full of items out the door. When an employee stopped him and asked for his receipt, police say he ran off.

The man was seen on surveillance cameras but has not been identified.
