INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana Supreme Court has suspended former Indiana Secretary of State Charlie White’s law license after he was convicted in 2012 of felony charges.

The court issued the suspension Tuesday for two years without automatic reinstatement. The state high court said the disciplinary penalty usually would be stiffer but noted that White’s license already has been under interim suspension for four years.

The justice said they would only reinstate White’s license if he proves “by clear and convincing evidence” that he’s fit to resume practicing law. They said that’s would be a “particularly steep” burden in White’s case.

The Republican was elected in 2010. He was removed from office in 2012 after jurors in Hamilton County convicted him of the felonies. He served one year of house arrest.
