Michigan City man in critical condition after near-drowning

A 26-year-old Michigan City man is in critical condition after he was pulled from Stone Lake on Sunday evening, July 10.

The man and a friend were fishing from kayaks about 50 feet from shore when the man’s kayak capsized, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

The man’s friend tried to save his friend while witnesses called 911. Emergency responders arrived on scene at 7:33 p.m. and found the man in 7 inches of water. He was revived and rushed to IU Health LaPorte Hospital.

The incident remains under investigation.
