BELLEVILLE, Mich. (AP) — A man with a long record of drunken driving has been charged with second-degree murder after the death of a 12-year-old girl in a crash last week.

The Wayne County prosecutor’s office added new charges Monday. Victoria Mack died Saturday, a few days after Charles Cahill’s vehicle slammed into the rear of a minivan at a stop sign in Sumpter Township, near Belleville.

Police say Cahill was drunk, speeding and driving without a license last Wednesday night. He remains in jail on $1 million bond and will next appear in court on Aug. 10.

It wasn’t immediately known if he has a lawyer who could be reached for comment. State officials say Cahill’s driver’s license was revoked in 1990.
