Meat is on the menu for Elkhart thieves this week

Beef may be what’s for dinner, but for thieves in Elkhart, it’s what’s being stolen this week.

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department is investigating thee separate cases of meat being taken from freezers inside homes, according to the Elkhart Truth.

Sometime last weekend, someone broke into a home on the 65000 block of S.R. 13 just north of Millersburg. A woman reported all of the following stolen: 15 pounds of steak, 75 pounds of ground beef, two boxes of pizza, five packs of hot dogs, four packs of smoky links, three packs of shredded cheese, two freezer boxes, a garbage can, and a set of keys.

Next up was a home on the 53000 block of C.R. 5 in Osolo Township. Sometime after noon Monday, someone walked into a woman’s unlocked residence. A thief got away with freezer full of meat and three rolls of toilet paper. To top it off, the thieves vandalized her house with her own red paint and cooking oil.

Finally, sometime late Monday or early Tuesday, a suspect broke in to a home on the 61000 block of S.R. 13 between Middlebury and Millersburg. Two bikes and an unknown amount of frozen meat were taken.

It’s not known if the incidents are related. The Elkhart Sheriff’s Department is still investigating.
