Elkhart County’s rural areas benefiting from tech needs of manufacturing

Elkhart’s manufacturing centers are benefiting from a recent expansion of broadband coverage.

Comcast expanded their broadband coverage to reach nearly 80 Elkhart manufacturers, according to The Elkhart Truth.

The move is “good step toward improving broadband internet access in the county,” according to county commissioner Mike Yoder.

Comcast announced the completion of the project last week, part of an effort to improve coverage in Elkhart and three other towns across the northern part of the state, including Portage. The project brings the Comcast network to more businesses in the Lusher Avenue area.

Yoder points out there’s more work ahead, as some residential areas in the county are still on dial-up.
