An Elkhart man was adamant about getting a particular judge for his double murder trial.

Diego Ramos, 23, got his wish to have retiring Judge Terry Shewmaker on the bench for his two-day trial, set on Thursday for Dec. 19, according to the Elkhart Truth.

Also Thursday, Ramos’ attorney told the judge that they plan on a general denial of the charges. He also warned that a plea agreement before then is unlikely, according to the Elkhart Truth.

Ramos is charged with murdering 27-year-old Jose Nava-Orozco and 43-year-old Marco Carmona-Gonzales in a home at the Brookside Manor mobile home park. Authorities believe the slayings were gang related.

Luis Rivas, 19, was sentenced in August to 12 years in prison for assisting a criminal.
