Study to look at reusing North Side Gym in Elkhart rejected

(Sam Householder/Elkhart Truth)

It’s $30,000 they would have never gotten back.

That’s why the Elkhart Redevelopment Commission this week rejected a proposed $30,000 study to look at redeveloping North Side Gym into a multi-purpose indoor sports complex, according to the Elkhart Truth.

The gym is owned by Elkhart Community Schools and contributes no property taxes. The school district also wasn’t chipping in to help fund the study, according to Pam Kurpgeweit of the Elkhart City Council.

The study would have been tacked on to a study being done to see if more convention space is needed at the RV/MH Hall of Fame by the Indiana Toll Road.
