A man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after the pick-up truck he was driving smashed into a pole.

It happened early Thursday afternoon on Cassopolis Street near the entrance to the toll road, according to the Elkhart Truth.

Police say the driver was traveling southbound, then crossed several lanes of traffic, struck a crosswalk signal, then hit the pole.

Emergency crews were not able to speak to the man to figure out why the crash happened. He was taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment.
