Man at center of road rage incident, police pursuit hospitalized after crash

A driver who police say was involved in a road rage incident was hospitalized after crashing his vehicle while being pursued by police.

The road rage incident happened around 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, on State Road 19 near State Road 119.

The crash, afterward, occurred when police say they attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the 23-year-old man behind the wheel took off, tried to pass another vehicle, then struck a pole and rolled several times.

The driver, Joshua Wardlow, of South Bend, was ejected from the vehicle and airlifted to South Bend Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

Officers stated that potential charges will be filed for Wardlow’s arrest upon his release from medical care.
