The Elkhart City Council has approved $1.4 million dollars to replace two fire department vehicles described as “deteriorating.”
This will happen despite concerns about the price and the purchasing process, according to the Elkhart Truth.
It’s part of the $4.5 million replacement plan created by Elkhart Fire Chief Chad Carey.
The vehicles in question are a hazmat unit from 1988 and a 2006 ladder truck. Both are said to be in poor condition with aging parts.
$130,000 of the approved funds will be used to cover other equipment.
The funding request was approved Monday evening with an 8-0 vote.
