A South Bend man will not be charged in a fatal River Park shooting in December.

The grand jury determined 47-year-old James Griffin would not be charged in the shooting that killed 25-year-old Curdin Gizewski on Dec. 11. No reasoning was publicly released.

He was arrested on a preliminary count of voluntary manslaughter after the shooting, Sunday, Dec. 11, in the 1300 block of 31st Street.

The shooting stemmed from a family fight, according to the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit.

The Grand Jury was requested in light of previous violent interactions between Gizewski and Griffin and whether the shooting was a case of self-defense, defense of others or justifiable homicide, the prosecutor’s office stated.
