Westville man recovering after oil drum explosion

A man was badly burned Monday afternoon when a metal drum he was cutting containing hydraulic oil exploded in Westville.

The 60-year-old man is expected to make a full recovery, according to WSBT.

The LaPorte County Emergency Medical Service said the victim suffered second degree burns to his face, arms and back sometime after 3 p.m. Monday in a garage in the 300 block of East Jefferson Street.

He was driven by his wife to Porter Regional Hospital near Chesterton. There was little, if any, damage to the garage behind the residence after the sparks caused the oil to ignite in the drum.
