The City of Elkhart has approved a $2 million grant for the future Health, Aquatics and Community Center.
The city agreed to grant the money for public parking at the $65.5 million facility, a project deemed by supporters as the largest project in Elkhart County history, according to the Elkhart Truth.
The plan is to make the parking changes gradually so as not to upset the future of the River District Plan, which entails numerous improvements along East Jackson Boulevard. Those include the aquatics center as well as a new Martin’s Supermarket, luxury apartments, and some infrastructure improvements designed for pedestrians, including traffic signals.
$50,000 has already been spent by the city to relocate a sewer line.
