Spring time means time for bicylists to dust of their bikes and get them ready for riding.

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Mishawaka Mayor Dave Wood are ushering in bicyling season with the Mayors’ Bike Ride, which is set to take place from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Sunday, May 7.

The family-friendly, recreational ride will begin at three locations: Red Barn, St. Patrick’s County Park; Howard Park, South Bend; and Central Park, Mishawaka. The route mostly follows trails along the St. Joseph River.

“Being bike-friendly is important to all of us for mobility, health, and recreation,” says South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg. “The Mayor’s Ride helps us showcase the St. Joseph River Waterway with its trails and bikeways, enhancing our whole region as a great place to live or visit. “

“Our parks and bike trails provide great opportunities for families to enjoy the outdoors together,” says Mishawaka Mayor Dave Wood. “This event serves as a great reminder to the community that biking provides a healthy transportation option for all ages”

The event is free of charge, though a $10 per person donation is suggested to help Bike Michiana Coalition. All riders must also fill out a waiver.

Participants are encouraged to register for the event online.
