Death investigation underway after body found on County Road 1 in Elkhart County

Authorities are still working to determine the identity of a person who was found dead in a field area in Elkhart County.

The body was discovered around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, on the property of a home in the 54000 block of County Road 1.

There is no foul play suspected and no danger to the public, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

On Monday, the sheriff’s department released this statement regarding the discovery:

On April 15, 2017 at approximately 12:28pm, Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department Officers responded to 54435 CR 1 to investigate the report of a deceased subject who had been found in a field area.  Though there is no foul play suspected and no danger to the public, investigators are continuing to investigate the death and are working with the Elkhart County Coroner’s office to identify who this person is.  It is early in the investigation and additional details to be released will be determined at a later time.
