“American Gothic” sculptures make debut in Elkhart’s Central Park

Two more statues are on display in downtown Elkhart, and these two are big ones.

The American Gothic statues are a part of the bronze Seward Johnson statues going on display throughout the county this summer.

The two statues combine to make up a 25-foot tall, 27,000 pound sculpture that will overlook Elkhart’s Central Park. The sculpture created by Seward Johnson depicts artist Grant Wood’s iconic painting of a farmer holding a pitchfork standing next to his daughter with a suitcase at their feet.

That sculpture, along with 56 others throughout the county, will be on display through October 20.
