Police in Dowagiac are warning residents in and out of the city of counterfeit bills being passed around.

There have been six separate cases of fake bills being passed since January, according to the Dowagiac Police Department.

Most of those passed around are marked “For Motion Picture Use Only” and are in one-hundred-dollar denominations. These bills look and feel as if they are legitimate, but police say they are fake.

Officers have taken several calls of personal items being sold between private citizens where the phony money was used. The department has also responded to incidents where this fake money was used at local businesses. And, they say the money has also been passed outside of the city limits.

Check your $100 bills for the words “For Motion Picture Use Only.” If you have one, contact police.
