A boy has died after farm equipment partially rolled onto him in Cass County.

The sheriff’s office says the boy was riding on the equipment on Wednesday, June 21, when he fell beneath it at a farm in the 19000 block of Dewey Lake Street in Volinia Township.

The equipment rolled partially onto him. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.

UPDATE: The Cass County Sheriff’s Office released the following Thursday morning:

In a separate incident, LaPorte County, emergency crews were called to a farm in on County Road 400 South, east of U.S. 35, Wednesday, June 21, where they say a 3-year-old boy was run over by a tractor.

The toddler was riding his bike on the property when he grandfather, who was operating the tractor, was heading into a field, according to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office.

The child was often with his grandfather on the tractor and that may have led him to ride his bike in that direction, the sheriff’s department stated.

The boy was taken to LaPorte Hospital, then airlifted to a hospital in Chicago for treatment.

He suffered head and internal injuries and is being sedated. The family was encouraged when, at one point, the child awoke, wiggled his toes and opened his eyes briefly.
