A Trail Creek man has turned himself in to Michigan City police days after he allegedly struck and killed 5-year-old Delaney Klewer with his SUV.

Marcus R. Scully is initially charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death, which is a Level 5 felony. He’s currently being held in LaPorte County Jail on a $15,000 cash-only bond.

Police told the Michigan City News-Dispatch that media and public pressure led Scully to turn himself in to police.

Delaney Klewer was struck shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday as she was trying to cross the 300 block of Broadway Street with her sister. She later died at St. Anthony Hospital.

Her parents, Matthew Klewer and Gail Biela, urged the driver Wednesday to come forward and for anyone who knows who struck their child to contact police.

Matthew Klewer tells the South Bend Tribune his message to the driver is to “just turn yourself in, dude, plain and simple.”
