Michigan police searching for suspect in St. Joseph, Kalamazoo County killings

FLORENCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A 32-year-old man is in police custody in Indiana following two slayings across two southwestern Michigan counties.

Kalamazoo police say Zachary Michael Patten was arrested Friday in South Bend, Indiana.

St. Joseph County Undersheriff Mark Lillywhite tells WXMI-TV that Patten turned himself in to police in South Bend.

MLive.com reports that a man was shot about 10:15 p.m. Thursday in St. Joseph County’s Florence Township — north of the Indiana state line — by the suspect, who forced his way into a home. The 29-year-old Richardson later died at a hospital.

Lillywhite says the victim had been married to the Patten’s ex-wife.

A 31-year-old woman was shot to death about 45 minutes earlier as Patten argued with another man at a Kalamazoo mobile home park in Kalamazoo County.

Police say a man was shot about 10:15 p.m. Thursday in St. Joseph County’s Florence Township by the suspect, Zachary Michael Patton, who forced his way into a home. The victim later died at a hospital. Police say the two men knew each other.

A 31-year-old woman was shot to death about 45 minutes earlier as the suspect argued with another man at a Kalamazoo mobile home park in Kalamazoo County.

Police say the suspect is considered armed and dangerous and last was seen driving a silver 2004 Chrysler Pacifica with a Michigan license plate.
