Michigan City fatal hit and run suspect seeks bond reduction

The man who allegedly struck and killed 5-year-old Delaney Klewer with his SUV then fleeing the scene wants a lower bond.

Marcus Scully was in court Tuesday to ask the judge to not only plead not guilty, but to consider lowering his $15,000 bond. WSBT reports that his attorney claimed his client is not a monster, that the incident was a tragedy, and that he turned himself in because of his extreme guilt. All of that is why he feels his client should get a bond reduction.

Klewer’s family disagreed. They told WSBT that if he was such a great member of society, he should have stopped after hitting Klewer, saying those moments could have saved her life.

The court will decide later on his bond reduction. His request comes the day of Klewer’s wake.

Delaney Klewer was struck shortly before 6 p.m. last Tuesday as she was trying to cross the 300 block of Broadway Street with her sister. She later died at St. Anthony Hospital.
