Elkhart police say they arrested a man who was in a fighting mood Friday night.

29-year-old Gerrell Johnson is facing multiple charges, including at least three different battery charges, after he allegedly hit a woman, her child, and then took the fight to officers responding, according to ABC 57.

It all happened at about 3 a.m. Friday when police responded to the 1000 block of Garfield Avenue on reports of a trespasser. Johnson reportedly tried to attack a woman in the home when police were trying to get inside. He also reportedly threw the woman’s child to the ground when the child tried to open the door for officers.

Two officers were hurt when Johnson tried to fight them while they were trying to take him into custody.
